St. Martin de Porres Interparochial School: Creating Well-Rounded and Academically Prepared Students This year, for the first time, the sixth-grade students have been separated into boy and girl classes at the St. Martin de Porres Interparochial School. Students attending St. Martin de Porres Interparochial School are from the parishes of St. Madeline Sophie, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Vincent de Paul. Smaller class size is desirable, between 15-17 pupils. The pupils are required to stay in school until 5 p.m. During that time, the pupils spend time on homework with extra help available from teachers and tutors. The students will be doing service projects during the course of the school year with a chance for dialogue about the experience. The hope is that through increased academic support and service opportunities, graduating students will be well-rounded and academically prepared for the high school of their choice. Next year, this program will include sixth and seventh-grade students, followed by the eighth-grade students the third year. Admission into the Vincentian Academy is not automatic from fifth-grade. Students need to apply to this program. Admission is determined by the student’s willingness to cooperate, work hard, and have a positive attitude. For more information about the Vincentian Academy, call the Assistant Principal, Sr. Cheryl Ann Hillig, D.C., at (215) 842-1266 or Fr. Richard Rock, C.M. at (215) 842-1287.
