| Anthony Acchione Anthony A. Acchioe, of West Chester, husband of Lena R. Acchione (born Calabrese), died Feb. 20, 2004. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 24 at SS. Simon and Jude Church, West Chester. Burial was at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. He was the father of Anthony A. Jr. and John B. Acchione. Also survived by three grandchildren. He was a brother of Edith Monti, Helen Canuso, Julius Acchione and the late Lawrence, Henry, Daniel, John and Italia Acchione. Allen Atkinson Allen J. Atkinson, 91, of Upper Darby and Ocean City, N.J., died Feb. 29, 2004. He was the husband of the late Mary S. Atkinson (born Connelly). Mr. Atkinson was a motorman for the old Red Arrow Lines (P&W) for over 30 years. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 4 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Media. Burial was at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. He was the father of Joan Alice Mullen, Allen E. Atkinson, Father William J. Atkinson, O.S.A., Mary D’Alessandro, Elizabeth Harvey, Patricia McCaffrey and Edward Atkinson. Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. William Carlin Sr. William J. Carlin Sr., 78, of Doylestown, a Bucks County lawyer, died Feb. 22, 2004. He was the husband of Mary Jane Carlin (born Klinges). Mr. Carlin was a member of the Begley, Carlin and Mandio law firm in Langhorne. He graduated in 1944 from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School. He served as president of the Bucks County Bar Association. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 26 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Doylestown. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham. He was the father of William J. Jr., Richard S., Jane Carlin and the late Mary Grace Klinges Carlin. He was a brother of Lex Carlin and Joan Weir. Also survived by five grandchildren. John Dempsey Sr. John P. Dempsey Sr., 80, of Rosemont, husband of the late Nancy T. Dempsey (born Dunne), died Feb. 21, 2004. Mr. Dempsey was vice president of Kidder, Peabody and Co., an investment banking firm. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and the University of Notre Dame. He was a former president of the Notre Dame Club of Philadelphia, and the Municipal Bond Club of Philadelphia. During World War II he served in the Army. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 26 at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. He was the father of John P. Jr., Mary Pat Shearer, Anne Bowers, Colleen Gillespie, Rosemary Dempsey, James A. and Therese McClatchy. He was a brother of Mary Straub and Martin J. Dempsey. Also survived by 13 grandchildren. Joseph Fitzgerald Joseph A. Fitzgerald of Ardsley, husband of the late Theresa Fitzgerald (born McCabe), died Feb. 19, 2004. Mr. and Mrs. Fitzgerald celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May, 2003. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 24 at Queen of Peace Church, Ardsley. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken. He was the father of Moira Winstanley and Scott Fitzgerald. Also survived by two grandchildren and two brothers, James and John Fitzgerald. Mary Henry Mary F. Henry (born Humm), 89, wife of the late Frederick J. Henry, died Feb. 19, 2004. Mrs. Henry was a member of the Senior Citizen Club of St. John the Baptist Parish. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham. Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Loschiavo and Patricia Reilly. Also surviving are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother, Raymond Humm. Howard Kenny Howard J. Kenny, husband of the late Rose A. Kenny (born Haughney), died Feb. 19, 2004. Mr. Kenny was a retired bridge inspector for the City of Philadelphia. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at Holy Innocents Church. Burial was at New Cathedral Cemetery. He was the father of Dolores Forrest, Lawrence Kenny, Kathleen Loftus, Nancie Ann Moebius and Regina Davenport. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Richard McClatchy Jr. Richard A. McClatchy Jr., 74, of Unionville and formerly of Rosemont, husband of Marianne McClatchy (born Gorham), died Feb. 26, 2004. Mr. McClatchy served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for some 20 years. A graduate of Malvern Preparatory School, he served in the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he became associated with McClatchy Builders Corp., which was founded by his grandfather. He was a trustee of Malvern Preparatory School, Cabrini College and Harcum College. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 2 at St. John Baptist Vianney Church, Gladwyne. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken. He was the father of Marianne R. McClatchy-Mize, and Richard Brian Carroll McClatchy. Also survived by three grandchildren, 30 nieces and nephews. He was a brother of James H. McClatchy, Barbara McClatchy Brown, Patricia McClatchy Gaynor and the late Thomas and Paul McClatchy. Sister Maria Noonan Sister Maria Sponsa Noonan, S.S.J., the former Anna Marie Noonan, died Feb. 18, 2004. She was 89. Born in Philadelphia, Sister Maria Sponsa entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1933. She served in the Philadelphia Archdiocese and the Allentown and Trenton dioceses. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown. Burial was at the community Cemetery. Surviving are nephews and nieces, and member of her congregation. She was a sister of the late Mark and Joseph Noonan, Loretta Seaman, Helen and Catherine Noonan. Robert Poletti Sr. Robert T. Poletti Sr., of Drexel Hill, husband of Mary M. Poletti (born McGrath), died Feb. 18, 2004. Mr. Poletti was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame of St. Joseph’s University in 2002. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 23 at St. Dorothy Church, Drexel Hill. Burial was at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. He was the father of Robert T. Jr. and the late Renee M. Poletti. Also survived by three grandchildren. He was a brother of Norma Conrad and Natalie Kane. Ferdinand Spiewak Ferdinand J. Spiewak, 77, husband of Leatrice Spiewak (born Boffa), died Feb. 20, 2004. Mr. Spiewak was a chief inspector for the Philadelphia Police Department. He served 29 years on the force. The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 27 at Nativity B.V.M. Church. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem. He was the father of Constance L. Malec, Fred and John. Also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was a brother of Alfreda, Rachel, Mary and the late Vincent.
