Father W. J. DeCraemer
Jesuit Father Willy J. DeCraemer of Manresa Hall, St. Joseph’s
University, died March 31, 2005. He was 79. Born in Kortrijk, Belgium, Father
DeCraemer entered the Belgium Province of the Jesuits in 1944. He was missioned
to the Congo in 1951 and was ordained in 1957. He arrived in the U.S. in
1960. He was a tenured associate professor of sociology and graduate group
chairman of the sociology department at the University of Pennsylvania for
15 years. Ill health forced him to retire to Manresa Hall. The funeral Mass
was celebrated April 5 at Old St. Joseph Church. Burial was at SS. Peter
and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. Surviving are two brothers and two sisters
in Belgium.
Helen Gallagher
Helen Gallagher (born Foy), wife of the late John J. Gallagher, former president
of Beneficial Savings Bank, died March 31, 2005. Mrs. Gallagher was a volunteer
to the Holy Redeemer Hospital and Health Community. She was an associate
with the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer. In 1992, she was chosen as United
Way’s Suburban Volunteer Center Outstanding Volunteer of the Delaware
Valley. She was a member of several organizations, including the Catholic
Philopatrian Literary Institute and St. Joseph’s Prep Mother’s
Club. The funeral Mass was celebrated April 6 at St. Matthew Church. Surviving
are the following children, John J. and Kim Gallagher, Helen Marie, Michael
J. and Maryann Gallagher, Daniel J. and Nancy Gallagher. Also survived by
13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Father Robert Grace
Father Robert S. Grace, 77, a graduate of former St. James High School,
Chester, died April 2, 2005. Father Grace was ordained to the priesthood
June 4, 1955 for the Washington Archdiocese and was living in retirement
at the time of his death. A funeral Mass was celebrated April 5 by Auxiliary
Bishop Kevin J. Farrell of Washington at St. Anthony Church, North Beach,
Md. A Mass was also celebrated April 6 at St. Katharine Drexel Church, Chester.
Burial was at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood, Pa.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia M. McLaughlin. Also surviving are two nieces,
two nephews, two great-nieces and five great-nephews.
James McGovern
James P. McGovern, 41, died March 6, 2005. He was the son of James E. and
Stella McGovern (born Kobylakiewicz). Mr. McGovern worked at the Treasury
Department for 20 years. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 10 at Ascension
of Our Lord Church. Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery. He was a father of
Elizabeth and Kimberly McGovern and brother of Michael McGovern and Nancy
Casaus.
Guy Patrizzi
Guy J. Patrizzi, 81, of South Yarmouth, Mass., died March 25, 2005. He was
the husband of Margaret L. Patrizzi (born Fallon). Mr. Patrizzi was a retired
purchasing manager for The Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News. He
moved to South Yarmouth in 1987. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 29
at St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth. He was the father of Susan Shaw and
Peter J. Patrizzi. Also survived by two grandchildren; brothers Eugene Patrizzi
and Edward Patrizzi.
Sister Daniel Smyth
Sister Daniel Mary Smyth, I.H.M., the former Mary Theresa Smyth, died March
2, 2005. She was 89. Born in Philadelphia, Sister Daniel Mary served in
the Philadelphia Archdiocese and the Allentown Diocese. She also served
at Villa Maria Academy, Virginia; Notre Dame, Miami and St. Rose of Lima.
Miami Shores. The funeral Mass was celebrated March 7 at Camilla Hall. Burial
was at Immaculata. Surviving are a sister, Bette Von Hacht and members of
her congregation. She was predeceased by two cousins, Father John Smyth
and Sister St. Margaret Mary Smyth, I.H.M.
