From the Pope Benedict XVI Supplement:
Letters from the Pope
Just three months before he died of cancer last year, Msgr. Thomas J. Herron, the former pastor of St. Laurence Parish in Upper Darby, received a personal letter from his former boss, then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI.

In this issue:

Prayer: St. Gianna Molla: Heroine in an age of choice: In the 43 years since her death, she’s left behind a trail of miracles. The infertile were blessed with children; problem pregnancies came to happy conclusions; sick children were healed and many a lukewarm soul found itself on fire for God.

Black Catholic: Light of God’s generosity: There are many unique aspects of the newly dedicated Church of Saint Helena in Blue Bell, Montgomery County. Not only is one caught up in the beauty of the altar and the sweet smell of incense, but the colorful stained-glass windows tell a marvelous story of faith.
In the Parishes: Focus on Montgomery County’s
SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish, Conshohocken
Vocations: From the Brook: A Weekly Profile of Members of the Ordination Class of 2005 from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood

Join the Cardinal in honoring our Eucharistic Lord
In the earliest moments of Pope Benedict XVI’s pontificate, while his heart was still seized with the terrible wonder of his new assignment, the Pope implored the faithful around the world to celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi with him this year in a special way.
Creator Spiritus
Come, Holy Spirit

It’s never too late to receive the Holy Spirit. Take Juan Canales of St. Martin of Tours Parish. A life-long Catholic who somehow never got around to being confirmed, there he was at age 85, in the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, on May 15, Pentecost Sunday, receiving the sacrament at the hands of Cardinal Justin Rigali. “It makes me feel big,” he said.
Late pope named 14 local monsignors
As one of the last acts before his death, Pope John Paul II honored 14 priests from the Philadelphia Archdiocese by appointing them to one of three levels of monsignor.
The slave down the block
Although we know there were difficult days before the end of the American Civil War, and that racism in its many evil forms continues to exist even in our day, we tend to think that slavery truly ended at the end of that war.
Bishops campaign to end capital punishment
“It is time for U.S. Catholics to come together to work to end the use of the death penalty in our land,” the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops declared recently, part of their aggressive new campaign to end the use of the death penalty.
Neumann College honors student for peace and justice work
"I was a strong advocate of the death penalty and believed that if you took someone’s life, then we had the right to take yours,” Monika Solarska said.
Rain or shine, a clear path for Mothers Home’s fundraiser
The clouds rolled in and the rain began on the morning Mothers Home volunteers gathered for the second annual Baby Steps fundraiser, but nothing was going to keep those folks from walking.

Walking the balance beam of life: In the midst of preparing for finals, today I was finally able to hit Loyola’s Fitness and Aquatics Center — more lovingly known as the “FAC.” Story

‘Jesus Time’
As you walk the halls of most schools, you will notice that each classroom is working on a different task. One room may be going over spelling words, another reading from a social studies text, and yet another tackling math problems. You may hear children’s cheers, as teams compete in physical education class.
