After School
Providence Center, 2635 N. Fourth Street (near Lehigh Avenue) will offer an after-school program for children from local parochial, public and private elementary schools. Classes begin Monday, Sept. 26 at Julia DeBurgos School, with registration Sept. 22-23. Activities will include homework assistance, academic support, and recreational and cultural events. Afternoon classes will be held Monday to Friday.

First Vows
Katherine Baltazar, a clinical nurse specialist, and Jean Kirk, R.N., M.D., will make their first profession of vows as Medical Mission Sisters at a special Mass and reception Sunday, Sept. 4 at the community’s North American headquarters in Fox Chase.
Sister Katherine is a graduate of Bishop Dennis J. O’Connell High School in Arlington, Va. She studied at Columbia University and worked as an oncology nurse at Sloan-Kettering Hospital.
Sister Jean of Bloomfield, N.J., studied at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, N.J., and worked as a radiologist in Meadville, Pa. and Elmira, N.Y.

Pottery Exhibition

St. Joseph’s University will hold its first exhibition of the 2005-06 academic year from Aug. 29 through Sept. 29, featuring the work of local potter Lana Heckendorn. An opening reception will be held Friday, Sept. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Boland Hall.

Parish Homecoming
St. Helena Parish School in the city’s Olney area has a homecoming celebration Saturday, Oct. 15. Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., followed by a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. in the school hall. Information: 215-322-2057.

Gaelic Football
Philadelphia will host the Gaelic Games during Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2-5 at Pennypack Park, near Rhawn Street and State Road. The weekend will feature the national championships of Irish football which combines of soccer, American football and rugby. The Gaelic Athletic Association will bring teams from across the nation to Philadelphia. The last time the city hosted the championships was in 1992.

Golf Tournaments
The 11th annual golf tourney to benefit the ministries of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia is set for Monday, Sept. 12 at the Springhaven Club in Wallingford. Information: 610-558-5352. ... Corpus Christi Parish in Lansdale will conduct a nine-week novena of prayer to the Blessed Mother for healing. Devotions will be held Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. starting Aug. 31.
