Día de la Familia

¡El verano del 2005 será recordado por su increíble calor! En la Oficina de Hispanos Católicos, aprovechando esta temperatura que a muchos nos trae memoria de nuestros países (especialmente los que vivíamos en el área del Caribe) organizó por cuarta vez un viaje al campo; esta es una oportunidad que muchas familias hispanas aprovecharon para pasarse el día en el campo.

Fue bello el día en el que las familias del Apostolado Hispano se reunieron, en el santuario de Santa Katherine Drexel, para disfrutar de espiritualidad y diversión. Ese Día de la Familia anual fue auspiciado, el pasado sábado 6 de agosto, por La Oficina para Hispanos Católicos.

Es un día creado para que los padres y sus hijos, los abuelos, tías y tíos se reúnan para compartir lo preciado que son los unos para los otros y para reunirse como la Iglesia doméstica, dónde la formación comienza.

La mañana trajo pláticas para los padres y los jóvenes, y la tarde se llenó de juegos y diversiones para todos. Hubo carreras, tug-of war con sogas, juegos de dominó para los adultos y una piñata llena de golosinas para los niños; todos se divirtieron y el día finalizó con una misa en la cual se le dio gracias a nuestro Dios por todas las bendiciones otorgadas a nuestras familias a través de todo el año.

Anna Vega es la directora de la Oficina de Hispanos Católicos de la arquidiócesis de Filadelfia. Blanca Herrera es la subdirectora de la misma oficina.

Family Day

This summer of 2005 will be remembered for its incredible heat! The Office for Hispanic Catholics, taking advantage that the weather brings back memories of our birth countries (especially those of us from the Caribbean region) organized its fourth Family Day, Aug. 6. It was an opportunity for many families to spend a day in the countryside.

It was a beautiful sunny day when families from the Hispanic Apostolate gathered at the shrine of St. Katherine Drexel to enjoy a day for the entire family — filled with spirituality and fun.The Office for Hispanic Catholics hosted the annual Family Day on Saturday, August 6.

Family Day is a day for our families to gather together — parents with their children, grandparents, aunts and uncles — to share in the wonderful gift that they are to each other and to gather as the domestic Church, where all nurturing begins. The morning was filled with reflections for the parents and young adults, and the afternoon was filled with fun and games for all. There were races, tug-of-war competitions, dominoes for the adults, and a piñata filled with candy for the children. A good time was had by all, and the day ended with a Mass of thanksgiving to our God for the many blessings bestowed on all our families during the year!

Anna Vega is the director of the Office of Hispanic Catholics of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Blanca Herrera is the assistant director of the same office.

Encontrando camino, Finding a way

PRIMER ENCUENTRO — La arquidiócesis de Filadelfia patrocinó una reunión el 11 de agosto para preparar un encuentro nacional de pastoral juvenil hispana que se llevará a cabo en toda la región arquidiocesana en el futuro. En la reunión participaron, de izquierda a derecha en la foto: Mons. Shields, Kerry Keiter, Frank Nieves, Anna Vega, Christian Arellano, Tricia Manion, Andrea Meyer, Padre Andreas Garcia, Lisa Johnson, Lucía Robinson, Blanca Herrera, Star Prieto y Mons. Depman.

FIRST ENCUENTRO MEETING — The Archdiocese, led by the Office of Youth and Young Adults, will be preparing an archdiocesan-wide Encuentro Nacional de Pastoral Juvenil Hispana, in an effort to reach out to the growing number of Hispanic Catholic youth. The goal is to take the youth through the process of encounter, conversion, and communion to solidarity, in an effort to empower them to be more active and influential in the Church.
