Prayer: In the month of the Holy Souls, Our prayer is remembrance Two years ago, I was in a church in Sololá, Guatemala, for the Commemoration of All The Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day). The Spanish missionary who preached that day began by reflecting on the tradition in Guatemala — as it is in so many places — to visit the graves of loved ones on Nov. 2. Later that day as I traveled, I saw what a wonderful celebration this was — every cemetery was crowded with families who came to spend the day alongside the final resting place of parents and grandparents, friends and, saddest of all, children.
