The name of Hitler makes us recoil, while Mother Theresa’s name invokes feelings of warmth and compassion. The name of the class clown makes us want to laugh, but the name of a pesky neighbor makes us feel like hiding.
When your name is spoken, what feelings does it invoke? Are they good or bad? Perhaps the most perfect example of a name, then, is the “name above all names” — Jesus.

El Papa, los obispos piden respeto para los inmigrantes
Durante esta semana, la iglesia nos recuerda los eventos del principio de la vida humana de Jesucristo, incluyendo la huida de la Sagrada Familia a Egipto. Este misterio en la vida del Señor es el tema de la carta pastoral del Papa Pio XII, Exsul Familia Nazarethana (La Sagrada Familia Modelo y Consuelo de Refugiados), escrito in 1952. En esta carta, el Papa trata sobre el tema del cuidado de la iglesia para los inmigrantes. En los EEUU, la iglesia celebra esta semana como la semana nacional para los inmigrantes.

Rose McCloskey is 107 years old — and counting

They held a parade in Philadelphia the day Rose McCloskey was born. It was October 25, 1898, and the parade celebrated the end of the Spanish-American War. Since then, she has lived through a lot of war and a lot of peace, and she’s still singing her favorite song —“God Bless America.”

Deceased priest’s church bulletin ‘advice column’ is now a book
“Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.” The aforementioned quote appears on one of the opening pages of a book full of life advice by the late Msgr. Frederick J. Helduser, the former pastor of St. Dorothy Parish in Drexel Hill, and seems a fitting way to bid farewell to 2005.
Local priest concelebrates Mass at Prince Albert of Monaco’s enthronement
Prince Albert II of Monaco was so moved by the hand-made cards sent by youngsters at St. Bridget School in the East Falls section of Philadelphia to congratulate him on his ascension to the throne that he became choked up after reading one of them, and politely told the pastor of St. Bridget’s he planned to read the rest of the cards in private.
Looking for life and finding a vocation
When Cathy Manderfield graduated from James Madison University in 1996 with a degree in social work, she set off in search of life just like millions of other young people her age.

The Parents Television Council (PTC) has released its “Top Ten Best and Worst Advertisers” list. This analysis constitutes a major part of the PTC’s ongoing commitment to publicly credit those companies that are making an effort to support wholesome television shows, and to expose those companies that frequently sponsor violent and vulgar entertainment.
