Lecture Series
St. Joseph’s University will host the fifth of seven lectures in its Diversity Series Wednesday, Jan. 25. Myrlie Evers-Williams, one of the most prominent figures of the civil rights movement and a former chair of the NAACP, will discuss “leadership by action and not by design.” The lecture will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the presidents’ lounge of the Campion Student Center.
In June, 1963, Evers-Williams’ husband, civil rights leader Medger Evers, was shot and killed outside their home in Jackson, Miss. In 1995, she was named the first female chair of the NAACP. Information: 610-660-1140.

S.B.S. Gala
The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament of St. Katharine Drexel Mission Center and Shrine in Bensalem will sponsor their annual dinner-dance at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Celebrations in Bensalem. Special Education Benefit
The third annual dinner- dance to benefit the Pete Chirchirillo Memorial Fund and Queen of the Universe School of Special Education in Levittown will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb 4, at the parish hall. The fund was created by Pete Chirchirillo’s family after he died at the age of 47 in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
The school serves students with developmental delays and brain damage, who live in Bucks County, Northeast Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Information: 215-945-6090.

Behind the Scenes
Father John Bartunck, L.C., was on the movie-set of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of The Christ.” The experience inspired him to write the only authorized behind-the-scenes book on the movie. Father Bartunck will be a speaker at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote. He is currently studying in Rome. Information: 215-887-5575.

Serra Luncheon
Members of the Serra Club of Philadelphia will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Archdiocesan Office Center. A board meeting will follow the luncheon.

Foster Parents
Catholic Social Services is looking for married or single adults to become foster parents for children of all ages, races and religions. Homes are also needed for children with special medical or emotional needs and for siblings who wish to live together. Information: 215-587-3960.

Seminary Overnight
Young men (ages 16 and 17) will have the opportunity to join the seminarians of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary at a Jan. 21-22 overnight Day of Recollection. Guests will register at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21; the overnight concludes at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22. Information: 610-667-5778.

Vigil for Life
Father Mark E. Fernandes will conduct the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants vigil for life Saturday, Jan. 21. Following Mass at 7 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Center City, the clergy and congregation will pray the rosary at a nearby abortion center and return to St. John’s for Benediction.

Winter Retreat
The Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity will sponsor a midwinter retreat for women, Feb. 4-5, at the Mother Boniface Spirituality Center, 3501 Solly Avenue. Information: 215-335-7541.
