Prayer:
Lust v. chastity: The scorpion attacks the virgin
It has a way of hiding under the most innocuous labels — the
right to choose, diversity, free love, tolerance. And just like its
symbol, the scorpion, it loves to hide in shadowy places, behind society’s
most heinous crimes, such as abortion, adultery, rape, prostitution,
pornography
Chastity:
The virtue of a pure heart
In order to overcome lust — whether it is lust of the senses,
intellect, power, honor, recognition or any number of things we overwhelmingly
and inordinately desire — one needs a pure heart.
We don’t usually think further and deeper than considering sexual
lust and the need for chastity, but the vice of lust goes deeper than
distorted sexual desires.

to our area: A very special monstrance A
monstrance blessed by the late Pope John Paul II will grace the Philadelphia
area at seven Holy Hours in seven churches across the Archdiocese from
March 21 to March 28. The Holy Hours will be dedicated to prayer for
an increase in vocations to the archdiocesan priesthood. [See schedule
below.] Fishers
of Men
No, you won’t be seeing this short film at the Sundance Film Festival,
but that’s not because it couldn’t compete with the best
of them.
The film, “Fishers of Men” — just under 20 minutes
— was not made to win awards, but to inspire vocations.

Women Afire retreat Often
women are so busy caring for everyone else that they don’t have
time for themselves. That’s why Women Afire is sponsoring its

They gather around a table in a quiet corner of the church,

lay vocation: Secular Servants of Mary Catholic
laity have a formidable vocation in the world. It is their job to live
the Gospel in middle of a hostile world. Perhaps this is why lay vocations
are known to form in some of the most unexpected places. Called

Peter the Apostle Church on Girard Avenue, which rises over the tomb
of St. John Neumann, is among the most beautiful and beloved houses
of God in Philadelphia. Yet its ancient pews, narrow and unyielding,
are truly the wood of the cross and may be the most uncomfortable in
the Archdiocese. Evolution
by Design,
Part 2 The
Catholic Church sees no controversy between belief in God and evolution.
However,
discoveries over the past several decades have led some scientists to
challenge the theory of evolution as a complete explanation for everything
that has come into being since the beginning of time.

Profile: A
man’s perfect role model: Christ
"We are immersed in a culture that has undermined our role as
men, especially Christian men,” said Thomas Wurtz, the 27-year-old
coordinator of the Men’s Faith Formation of the Fellowship of
Catholic University Students (FOCUS). Speaking recently to local young
adults about Catholic manhood in a culture of identity crisis, Wurtz
noted that the culture’s confused and distorted view on manhood
has greatly effected his generation.
