Prayer:
A road less traveled
Imagine having to make a very long and difficult journey up the side of a steep mountain, while carrying everything you own on your back. You're alone and afraid, intimidated by the rocky incline above you.

Fresh Faith:
Hair today, gone tomorrow -
‘Makeovers’ with a purpose

It all began with one young woman wondering what she could sacrifice for Lent. That grew into a school event, where several students from St. Dorothy School in Drexel Hill donated their hair for Locks of Love, the nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children who suffer from long-term hair loss.

Penn’s Schiavo conference draws fire
An array of people convened recently at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine to consider the topic, “The legacy of the Terri Schiavo case — why is it so hard to die in America?
But protestors outside the symposium held up posters of Schiavo, asking instead: “Why is it so hard — especially for the weak and vulnerable — to live?”
St. Rita of Cascia Church: South Philly’s favorite shrine
Isn’t this a great religion? On Sunday, April 23, a statue of a North African saint was blessed in the shrine of an Italian saint that is located in a church built for Italian immigrants — but originally managed by Irish friars.
‘God does not see us as disabled … He sees us as we are’
The annual Eucharistic Liturgy that celebrates welcome and access for people of all levels of mental and physical ability was a particularly moving experience for Sister Susan Therese of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who attended this year with her friend, Bernadette Genuardi.
‘Olympic Day:’ Nourishing the whole child
“This is part of my dream — I want to be the star, all my life.” That was the sentiment shared by Doug Petersen, an 18-year-old, special-needs student from Our Lady of Confidence Day School, at the 4th annual “Olympic Day” event held at Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia.

Catholic Charities Appeal monies help fill the bellies of the hungry in the city and the suburbs by helping to keep the Archdiocese’s parish food cupboards full.

Queen of the Universe Day Center: no limits for learning
There are no limits to what Louis and Gregory Kramer can do. Neither boy can read music, but one plays classical piano and the other sings like Sinatra. Multiplication and long division are only a problem if they don’t have a calculator. No matter what the challenge, the Kramer brothers prove that with the right training, every obstacle is surmountable.

St. John the Baptist: Manayunk’s cathedral celebrates 175 years
You don’t have to live in Philadelphia’s Manayunk section to be familiar with St. John the Baptist Church. Driving along the Schuykill Expressway, glance across the river and you will see the cathedral-like gothic edifice that rises 200 feet, dominating the hills and valleys of Manayunk today just as it has done for more than a century.
