Knights’ Message
Millions of people in North America will get the message to “Keep
Christ In Christmas” thanks to public service announcements from
the Knights of Columbus that will be aired in the United States and Canada
during this Christmas season. The Knights have been producing “Keep
Christ in Christmas” announcements since the 1980s. Last year, the
Knights reached over 43 million TV viewers and 37 million radio listeners.
Hundreds of billboards with the same message have also been put up around
the nation.
Holiday Tournament
The Catholic War Veterans of Bridgeport will sponsor a varsity girls’
basketball tournament Dec. 28-29 at Kennedy-Kenrick High School in Norristown.
Competing schools include: Plymouth Whitemarsh, St. Joseph Academy, Engineering
and Science and Kennedy-Kenrick. Information: 610-584-5973.
Adopt Families
Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia will again be adopting families in the
West and Southwest Philadelphia areas for Christmas. Last year, 20 families
were assisted.This year, the hospital anticipates helping 24 families
and an estimated 68 children by proving clothing, toys, food and other
gifts. Each year, Mercy Hospital collaborates with neighborhoods to receive
names of needy families. Some of the churches include St. Cyprian and
Hickman Temple AMR.
Open House
The St. Mary of Providence Center in Elverson will have a Christmas open
house from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29-30. Families
are especially invited. Information: 610-942-4166.
Lancaster Trip
My Father’s Vineyard will sponsor a pilgrimage for life Saturday,
Jan. 6 to Lancaster to view “The Miracle of Christmas” presented
by a professional Christian theatrical company. Luncheon included. Bus
will depart at 10 a.m. from St. Ignatius Church in Yardley and at 11 a.m.
from Stella Maris Church in South Philadelphia. Information: 215-428-3842.
Foster Parents
Catholic Social Services is looking for single or married adults to become
foster parents for children of all ages, races and religions. Homes are
also needed for children with special medical or emotional needs and for
siblings who wish to live together. Information: 215-587-2458.
Serra Meeting
The final meeting of the year for members of the Serra Club will be held
at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Archdiocesan Office Center.
Spiritual
Vigil
for Life
Father John R McFadden will conduct the Helpers of God’s Precious
Infants vigil for life Saturday, Dec. 23 at Presentation B.V.M. Church,
Cheltenham. The rosary will be prayed at 6:30 a.m. at the Tabor Road Medical
Center, followed by Mass at 8 a.m. at Presentation. A vigil will also
be held Dec. 23 at 8th and Cherry Streets in Center City followed by Mass
at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick Church.
