Cardinal
spreads Christmas message to the imprisoned The
grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ flowed down to the assembled congregation
at Philadelphia’s beautiful Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter
and Paul through the ministry of Cardinal Justin Rigali at no less
than three Christmas Masses this year. The grace of Our Lord Jesus
Christ flowed down in even greater abundance to the assembled congregation
at Philadelphia’s women’s prison through the ministry
of Cardinal Rigali at a December 22 Christmas Mass in the spartan
gymnasium of Northeast Philadelphia’s Riverside Correctional
Facility.
A
shrine reborn at Our Lady of Hope
Some
traditions should never be allowed to die. One which did die, at
least for a time, was reborn Dec. 23 when Cardinal Justin Rigali
blessed the Shrine of the Holy Crib at Our Lady of Hope Church on
North Broad Street.

priest vocations holding steady While
priestly vocations continue to increase in some parts of the world,
overall numbers in the United States, including the Archdiocese of Philadelphia,
are holding steady.
Father
John Nordeman: Living and teaching the faith It’s true not all men are called to the
priesthood, but Father John J. Nordeman, ordained in 2001, was certain
of his calling. It is also true not all men — even priests —
are called to be teachers. So when Father Nordeman was asked to accept
an assignment as a high school teacher three years ago, he felt some
trepidation. The
many faithful ‘Josephs’ of Villa St. Joseph
“You live your lives under the patronage of St. Joseph,”
who was a just and humble man. Officially
retired, these priests still have jobs to do The last thing a person expects while sitting
around a dining room table with a group of retired priests is to realize
how difficult it can be to have a serious conversation. Between the
constant jokes and laughter, and the good-natured pot-shots, guests
are advised to check their expectations at the door and just get prepared
for a lively visit. Building
faith in Milmont Park Our Lady of Peace Parish in Milmont Park, founded
in 1922 , is 84 years old — but the beautiful church, where Cardinal
Rigali celebrated an anniversary Mass on Dec. 10, is 50 years young.
