Prayer:
Fathers need a spiritual life
Fathers are indispensable.
“[T]he place and task of the father in and for the family is of unique and irreplaceable importance,” we read in Familiaris Consortio (25). “As experience teaches, the absence of a father causes psychological and moral imbalance and notable difficulties in family relationships.” The Church’s position is completely supported by science.

City Council declares Philadelphia ‘pro-choice’
Only hours after Philadelphia was named the city with the highest murder rate in the country, members of City Council voted to attach yet another sad distinction to the City of Brotherly Love. On June 7, by a 9-8 vote, the Council voted to declare Philadelphia a “pro-choice city.”

Philadelphia council rescinds

Cardinal Justin Rigali thanked the Philadelphia City Council June 14 for voting to rescind a “troubling resolution” that had declared Philadelphia a “pro-choice city.”

Take charge: You have the power to change Council’s decision
When the Philadelphia City Council labeled the City of Brotherly Love a “pro-choice city,” Cardinal Rigali rightfully called the label “shameful.”

St. Benedict Parish to city council: ‘We are not pro-choice’
East Germantown’s St. Benedict Parish is a 99-percent African-American faith community of 300 families where Sunday Mass isn’t just attended, it is emphatically celebrated. It stands to reason life would be emphatically celebrated too, and on Sunday, June 10, a majority of the worshippers paused to sign a petition to be sent to their Philadelphia City Council representative, Donna Reed Miller, in protest of her support of the June 7 Council resolution designating Philadelphia as “a pro-choice city.”
