Making PREP more family-friendly

Delivering the message of Christ to today’s family-on-the-go is no easy task, but an innovative new twist on the usual PREP program at St. Catherine of Siena parish in Horsham has proven to be a big hit with families.

“We have the traditional program which takes place from September to May, but last year we started doing a summer

religious ed program,” said Donna Heeney, 48, director of religious education at St. Catherine of Siena and former president of the Archdiocesan DRE Association.

The summer program runs for two weeks in June, just after school lets out, from 9 a.m. to 12:15 Monday to Friday, which gives students the required 30-plus hours of instruction. Once they complete the program, students do not have to attend classes during the year, which means no more rushing to get children to class on time after a busy day at school or work. ...
