Prayer:
Reading an artist’s devotion in the face of his great work

On Sept. 15 the Church commemorates Our Lady of Sorrows, a day that recalls those events in the life of Mary that had been foretold by Simeon at the presentation of Jesus.

Christian or New Age:
Hypnosis and past life regression

“I want you to relax,” the hypnotist says in a soft, undemanding voice. “Just look at the bright spot on the wall. Focus. Focus. You’re starting to relax. You’re feeling sleepy. Your eyelids are getting heavy … so heavy … you just want to sleep ….”

Sports
If you love fall sports, September is one of the year’s best months
Every team and every athlete commences with a clean slate. Last year’s disappoi
ntments? In the past. Last year’s trophies? Gathering dust on a bedroom shelf.

Profile:
A generous project she’s sure won’t flop
Instead of packing away those barely used flip-flops for the fall, consider donating them to a village in Nigeria, says 14-year-old Chierika Ukogu.

Lives without shelter:
Increase in homelessness

Look around Philadelphia. If it appears to you that more homeless men and women are on the streets these days and nights, you are absolutely right.
