Sister M. Solange Dalfo
Sister M. Solange, I.H.M., (Sister Marie Odette) formerly known as Solange Catherine Dalfo, died Jan. 1, 2008 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata. She was 75. She was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Little Flower High School. In her years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, she taught on the elementary school level for 44 years. Her last assignment was at Incarnation Parish, Philadelphia. She also served in the dioceses of Trenton, N.J., and Miami, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Cora Jeanne Ramon Dalfo, and four brothers, Robert, Edward, Thomas and Guy Dalfo. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan. 5 at Camilla Hall with burial at Immaculata. She is survived by her sister, Sister Odette Dalfo, I.H.M., and brother, Louis Dalfo, as well as by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and members of her religious community.

Elizabeth K. Metzler
Elizabeth Metzler, formerly Kelly, a long-time resident of Broomall, died Jan. 2, 2008 in Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital. She was 93. She was born Oct. 5, 1914 in Philadelphia to Margaret McGarrity and Michael Kelly. After working at Haverford College, she was a secretary at Cardinal O’Hara High School, from which she retired. For most of her adult life she was a homemaker, raising her six children and enjoying her 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was the wife of the late John W. Metzler; sister of Jane McCarthy, the late Anne Van Fossen and the late Margaret V. Kelly, and the mother of John W. Jr., Francis J., James M., Mary Twomey Engro, William P. and Margaret Silva. A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 5 at St. Pius X Church, Broomall. Burial followed at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Sister Marie Annette Whitaker

Sister Marie Annette Whitaker, I.H.M., formerly Mary Ann Whitaker, died on Jan. 7, 2008 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata. She was 93. Born in Shenandoah, she served for 46 years on the elementary school level in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Her last assignment was at St. Anselm Parish. She also served in the dioceses of Miami, Fla.; Hartford, Conn.; Trenton, N.J., and Arlington, Va. She was predeceased by four brothers: Joseph, James, John and Frank Maley. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Jan.10 at Camilla Hall with burial at Immaculata. She is survived by three sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; two cousins, Sister Mary Cyril Meehan, I.H.M., and Sister Mary Charlene Whitaker, I.H.M., and by members of her congregation.

Sister Elizabeth Marie McCormick
Sister Elizabeth Marie McCormick, R.S.M., died Jan. 10, 2008 at Lankenau Hospital. She was 92. She earned bachelor’s degrees in elementary education from Villanova University and music from Manhattanville College, N.Y., as well as master’s degree in music from the Catholic University of America. She professed her vows as a Sister of Mercy in 1935 and taught at St. Matthias School, St. Denis School, Waldron Academy, Gwynedd-Mercy Academy High School and Gwynedd-Mercy College. She was chair of the Allied Health Programs at Gwynedd-Mercy College and also chair of the Community Liturgical Committee. She also became the information processor for internal services at the Sisters of Mercy convent, and then consultant for the MRC database. In 1994, she was awarded the Margaret Beirn Barger Distinguished Alumna Award from Gwynedd-Mercy Academy High School. She then moved to McAuley Convent, where she served in the ministry of prayer until her death. A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 14 at the Convent of Mercy at Merion, Merion Station. Burial was on Jan. 15 in the community cemetery. She is survived by nieces, nephews and her religious family.
