Tickets
limited for Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium
The New York Archdiocese will provide 3,000 tickets to the Philadelphia
Archdiocese for the April 20 Papal Mass at Yankee Stadium — not
nearly enough to accommodate more than 12,000 individuals who have already
requested tickets, according to archdiocesan officials.
As a result, the Philadelphia delegation to Pope Benedict XVI’s
public Mass in the Bronx, N.Y., will be made up of representatives from
parishes, schools and other archdiocesan institutions. These include archdiocesan
and private Catholic high schools, Newman centers, St. Joseph’s
University and a contingent from the deaf community.
Ticket requests made directly to the Archdiocese were routed to the applicants’
parishes for consideration by their pastors.
Host parishes in each of the six vicariates will be gathering points for
their own delegates and those from neighboring parishes. Host schools
will likewise be gathering points for students.
Some parishes are not receiving tickets because they had no individual
requests or their requests were not submitted before the ticket deadline.
No further ticket requests can be accommodated.
Only individuals whose applications can be accommodated will be contacted
by the parish or institution they approached for tickets.
Those who are unable to attend the Pope’s Mass in New York can be
assured that the Philadelphia-area pilgrims will represent the entire
Archdiocese, officials said.
