Sister Maureen Winifred Kelly

Sister Maureen Winifred Kelly, I.H.M., formerly Madeline Kelly, died on Feb. 5, 2008 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata. She was 74.
Born in Philadelphia, she served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 43 years, teaching both on elementary and secondary levels and serving in administrative posts on the elementary level. Her last mission was at Holy Innocents School where she served for eight years. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, and a cousin, Sister Brigetta McHale, I.H.M. A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 8 at Camilla Hall, with burial at Immaculata. She is survived by two brothers, Thomas and Dennis; a sister, Sister Anne Kelly, I.H.M; a sister-in-law; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews, and members of her religious community.

Sister Edith McLaughlin
Sister Edith McLaughlin, O.S.F., formerly Sister Mary Thomasita, died on Feb. 14, 2008 in Assisi House, Aston. She was 82 years old and a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 61 years. Born in McKeesport, she moved with her family to Baltimore as a girl, where she graduated from high school and worked before entering the religious community. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from San Diego College for Women and ministered primarily in elementary education. She taught in the Archdiocese of Baltimore; the dioceses of San Bernardino, Calif., and Baker, Oregon, and the St. Patrick Indian Mission in Anadarko, Okla. In 1999, she moved to Assisi House, where she served in prayer ministry until her death. A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 20 at Assisi House. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston. She is survived by a niece, a nephew and her Franciscan family.
