Father George A. Majoros has been appointed regional vicar for Delaware County, effective July 29.

He succeeds Msgr. John E. Breslin, who will retire on the same date — his 75th birthday.

Cardinal Justin Rigali recently announced the appointment.

“I think I’m still in shock,” Father Majoros said. “I’m greatly honored by the Cardinal’s trust and confidence in me. Let’s hope and pray that I can fulfill his expectations, and the expectations of the priests and the people of Delaware County.”

Father Majoros has also received a new pastorate. Presently the pastor of Maternity B.V.M. Parish in Northeast Philadelphia, he has been named pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Secane, Delaware County, effective June 16 — his 55th birthday.

Father Paul S. Quinter will succeed Father Majoros as pastor of Maternity B.V.M. Parish.

A former editor of The Catholic Standard & Times, Father Quinter has served for the past five years as editor of the English language edition of L’Osservatore Romano, the official newspaper of the Holy See in Rome.
Father Majoros was born June 16, 1953 in Philadelphia, the fifth of five children of the late Michael and Lottie Majoros.

Father Majoros wants his new flock and vicariate to know that he comes from “working-class people … good stock” who formed him in the Catholic faith. His father was a conductor for the Reading Railroad. His mother worked on transistor radios in an assembly line at the Philco-Ford factory in Lansdale.

Both instilled in their children the importance of a good work ethic and a strong faith life, Father Majoros said.

Michael and Lottie Majoros also shared with their children their deep devotion to the Blessed Mother. “It instilled in me a lively devotion to our Lady,” their priest son said.

And with that in mind, Father Majoros said he is thrilled to be assigned to another Marian parish.

“I’m relying on our Lady in her maternal care to guide me closer to Her Son, the Good Shepherd.”

His role as regional vicar, Father Majoros said, will center on being a support to the priests and the people of Delaware County “as they continue the mission of the Lord in their respective parishes.”

The incoming vicar commended the outgoing vicar, Msgr. Breslin, for his work. “I’m happy that I’ll move into that role that he did with great devotion and dedication to the Church. I thank him for all the groundwork.”

Father Majoros attended Nativity of Our Lord School and Archbishop Wood High School for Boys in Warminster before entering St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.

He was ordained May 19, 1979 at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia by Cardinal John Krol.

Assignments have included parochial vicar at Our Lady of Calvary and St. Monica parishes, both in Philadelphia; and faculty member at Roman Catholic High School for Boys and Archbishop Wood.

Father Majoros was pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Philadelphia from 1996 until 2003, when he was named pastor of Maternity B.V.M.

Father Majoros said the highlight of his pastorate has been, “above all, being a shepherd for the good people of Maternity — being their priest to celebrate the sacraments, to teach and preach the Gospel of our Lord, to be there at those privileged moments of their lives — the joys and the tragedies and sorrows.

“As hard as it is to leave, they have molded and shaped my heart and soul to be ready to accept this, to be more open to God and to see how I could serve even more.”
