Seminary’s Religious Studies Division
Graduates show Church’s rich intellectual tradition

The Religious Studies Division of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood, held its annual commencement ceremony May 22, at which Cardinal Justin Rigali presided.

Sister Prudence Allen, R.S.M., received an honorary doctoral degree in recognition of her contribution to the intellectual life of the Church on the nature and dignity of women.

The master of arts degree was conferred on 19 students, including two priests and five religious sisters. Four students received the Certificate in Pastoral Ministry to African-American Catholics, and two received the Certificate in Liturgical Studies.

The Religious Studies Division serves the non-seminarian population of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, providing Catholic theological education at all levels, from non-credit catechesis to graduate work, including a fully accredited master of arts degree and a variety of undergraduate certificate programs.

Working in cooperation with various Archdiocesan offices to satisfy the educational needs of the local Church, the division offers programs for educators, those involved in parish ministries and the general public.

Through its online programs, the St. Charles experience is made available to the universal Church. Recently added programs include the Catechetical Institute, which offers adult Catholic catechesis for those interested in growing in knowledge of the faith, and catechist training for those who teach the faith.
