Sister Alice Catherine Rohe, O.S.F.
Sister Alice Catherine Rohe, O.S.F., formerly, Sister Raymond Therese, died on July 20 at the Assisi House. She was 78. She was a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 58 years. She was born in Baltimore, Md., where she was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Fullerton. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1947, she graduated from the Catholic High School of Baltimore. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Villanova University; a master’s degree in biology from St. Mary College in Winona, Minn., and a master’s degree in chemistry from Morgan State University in Baltimore. She ministered primarily in education, on both elementary and secondary levels, and in parish ministry, both as a pastoral associate and as director of outreach services. In her leisure, she enjoyed listening to music, and doing various forms of crafts, especially watercolors. She ministered for 18 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at St. Elizabeth School from 1950-1957 and Hallahan High School from 1969-1980. She also ministered in the Dioceses of Allentown and Lexington, and the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She served in parish ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton - St. Stephen Mission Church in Crawfordville, Fla. and St. Mary of the Angels Parish in Anderson, S.C. She was predeceased by a sister, Sister Alice Joseph Rohe. A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 23 at the Assisi House. Burial was at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston. She is survived by five sisters, Sister John Catherine Rohe, Margaret Muller, Shirley Manubay, Irene McCafferty, Mary Therese Blondell, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and by her Franciscan family.
